- once there was a fishmonger
Claus Clausen was his name, and in the period when the frigate Jylland was anchored in Juelsminde bay (the anchor can today be seen at the harbor), he was a young man hired as a sailor on the frigate, and it is said that it was there, he conjured up the recipe for fish cakes, which today is still used in Juelsminde Fish. After signing off, he started in 1927 to sell fish to the old Bjerre District from a converted bicycle with an auxiliary motor, and it was the start of Snaptun Fisk, which is now renamed Juelsminde Fish.
The company continued by his son Hugo Clausen and traded fish from a motorcycle van, and as the first in the country he built around 1970 the first fish sale wagons around the squares provided East Jutland with fresh and smoked fish. The company was also one of the first countries to establish marine farms where produced steelhead in saltwater.
Snaptun Fisk in Juelsminde continued by his son Carsten Clausen, who had built arguably Denmark's finest fish shop and bistro and later a new large smokehouses, where the most modern technology combined with ancient craft to produce the high quality that has always characterized Snaptun Fisk.
In 2005, family Juul-Nielsen took over the company, now called Juelsminde Fish. They have continued the Clausen spirit, the quality and the craftsmanship are paramount. Alf Juul-Nielsen is trained butcher and has for 13 years operated his own slaughterhouse. Furthermore, his past as a fishmonger at Myrfeld Fish in Horsens has become highly topical - and the knife is still well in hand. The daughter Pernille has been in the service industry since she was 13 years old started working at the harbor in Juelsminde so that their combined experience is a big plus for Juelsminde Fish & Meat.
Carsten Clausen, who today is Juelsminde harbor master, still has its time on the ground, he and his family Juul-Nielsen has formed the firm Seafood Trading, which up to Christmas manufactures and sells a variety of fish boxes with smoked salmon and other smoked fish, white wine , snaps, etc. - Not only in Denmark, but in large parts of Europe.
Our sales vehicles are still running on weekdays out to squares around Jutland and Funen with fresh fish and smoked fish. We are in the same place every week at a specific time, so even if you are not near Juelsminde, you can always act fresh fish from one of selling cars.
The old recipe for fish cakes still being followed, but there are developed many new products continuously and the company with the times trend unde deviating from the old traditions and methods.
In 2011 closed the town butcher, but the family bought the inventory, recipes, etc. and started a butcher shop up combined with the fish shop. The combination of being able to trade his fish and meats in the same store is a plus for locals and tourists. The family's experience from 13 years in the butchery trade has again become highly topical. At the same time established Juelsminde Fish & Meat catering to identify the need for this in the area. Caters as sandwiches, tapas, cold cuts gingerbread man, buffets, regional cuisine etc. has been a hit for big and small companies - especially because the ingredients are as fresh as possible. The fish comes straight from the fish production, the meat directly from a butcher slicing, smoking articles from the oven and delicacies created ad hoc from scratch.
In 2012 the family extended with a large new banqueting room, which was decorated in the last hall, where they had salmon production in the past. At the time, they called the hall Aqua where the fresh water salmon originally came from. The name has been retained to the banquet room. There is room for max 140 prs. In large room with entrance from the beach side. Terrace with views to Funen and the port was established in this connection in 2013. The unconventional with banquet room is that guests can bring their own drinks, which combined with the tasty food and good operation means that the room is very booked.
